On May 14 an  Airbus A330 type aircraft of the South Korean airline, Asiana Airlines, hit the tail of Turkish Airlines' Airbus A321.  Security camera footage captured an Asiana aircraft colliding with a Turkish Airlines jet as it was taxing on the tarmac at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul on Sunday.   Fire crews immediately rushed to the plane.   Airline officials say no one was injured.

The Pakyong (Gangtok) Airport at Sikkim to be inaugurated soon

The Pakyong (Gangtok) Airport at Sikkim is likely to get inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  The airport was approved by the centre in 2008 and trial for use by commercial airlines were on. This month, the airport got license for scheduled operations.  Low-cost airline SpiceJet has been granted permission to fly to Pakyong from Kolkata under the Civil Aviation Ministry's regional connectivity scheme.  SpiceJet has already conducted a dry run at the airport with one its Bombardier Dash 8-Q400 aircraft successfully landing there on March 5. Also in March, A Dornier 228 of the Indian Air Force also landed at the airport.  This airport is of strategic importance and tourism sector, in particular, is expected to benefit immensely with this airport.

Boeing 737 crashes near Havana airport

A Boeing 737 airliner has crashed and exploded near Jose Marti International Airport in Havana, Cuban media report.The plane came down shortly after take-off, Prensa Latina news agency said. The plane was carrying 104 passengers and foreign crew, local reports say. No information about casualties has yet been confirmed. The airliner had been leased by state airline Cubana de Aviación from the Mexican company Damojh, Cuba's Director of Air Transport said. State TV said it was an internal flight from the Cuban capital to Holguin, in the east of the island.  Images showed a thick column of smoke near the crash site. Fire crews and ambulances are at the scene. A flight tracker on the Jose Marti International Airport website showed a flight operated by Cubana de Aviation scheduled to leave Havana at 11:00 CDT and arrive in Holguin at 12:20 CDT.
